Enrollment is now underway for USDA’s Conservation Stewardship Program. Center for Rural Affairs Policy Manager Anna Johnson advises those interested should plan ahead with what they want to achieve on their operations prior to signing up.

She says it’s best to develop your CSP plan by consulting with your local Natural Resources Conservation Service technician.

Johnson says there are several practices that can be utilized in your CSP plan and some of the newer ones provide higher compensation.

CSP application deadlines vary by state, so check with your local NRCS office to confirm your deadline and any requirements.
