USDA Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden has announced policy changes and a new web site to help those just starting to farm and ranch. Information on the web site assists beginning producers with in depth information on how to access land and capital, build new market opportunities, use the right risk management tools and participate in conservation programs. Center for Rural Affair’s Traci Bruckner says the web site is user friendly and a great tool for those beginners.
Bruckner says the policy changes and web site have already helped local producers in Northeast Nebraska.
USDA also announced that service fees have been waived for beginning farmers and ranchers who have enrolled in the Non insured crop disaster assistance program and payment reductions under the conservation reserve program have been eliminated. The new website is usda.gov/newfarmers.
