Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry is co-sponsoring the Strengthening Local Processing Act Legislation that’s been introduced this week. The Center for Rural Affairs assisted the Congressman with the measure. Policy Director Johnathan Hladik says this measure helps clear up barriers for small meat processors who want to expand their businesses.

He says two of the sections of the bill contain grants to help small meat packing plants with their expansion plans.

Hladik says the other section they helped with would help with the workforce.

Hladik says the Strengthening Local Processing Act seeks to address market disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
