Participants on the Wheat Quality Council Tour in Kansas on Tuesday, the first day of their tour saw a very positive crop, better than they expected. The total weighted average yield estimate of 59.2 bushels per acre is much higher than USDA’s projected yield of 52.1 bushels per acre. It’s also above the five year average. Council Executive Director Dave Green was in Central Kansas and says the wheat he saw is looking good.
He says the wheat is looking better than it did a year ago.
Green says cooler temperatures have actually benefitted the wheat.
Green says there was only a slight tinge of disease they saw and that was just a trace of stripe rust. He says they traveled from Manhattan to Hayes on Tuesday and will be in the Western third of the state today and the South Central before finishing up on Thursday by going back to the central part of Kansas.
