Center for Rural Affairs members are pleased Senators Mike Groene and Lou Ann Linehan have introduced LB 289, a measure to provide property tax relief. Center’s Policy Manager Jordan Rasmussen says the legislation has some good provisions in it but there are also some concerns they have with it.

She says the measure calls for a sales tax increase that her group thinks is a bit too high.

Rasmussen says part of what needs to be addressed in LB 289 is to make sure schools are properly funded once the tax relief is provided such the bill pass.

Rasmussen says they’re encouraging their members to attend the joint Revenue, Education and Retirement committee hearing set for next Wednesday on LB 289 and voice their thoughts on the proposed legislation.
