The Center for Rural Affairs is pleased House lawmakers have introduced the Broadband for Rural America Act. The measure calls for providing more than $7 billion in authorizations for USDA broadband connectivity programs. Center for Rural Affairs Senior Policy Associate Kayla Bergman says the need for better access for broadband in rural America has never been greater and this measure will help with that.
She says the funding provided for in Broadband for Rural America Act will help in closing off the shortfall of broadband connectivity that’s badly needed especially in rural areas.
Bergman says broadband is needed for several uses whether it be business, farms and ranches or even education. She also is encouraging her group’s members to weigh in with Congress asking them to pass this legislation.
Another important component of the Broadband For Rural America Act is it targets assistance focused on the most rural and least connected residents which often are the most expensive to connect.
