The Center for Rural Affairs is opposing LB 947, a bill that provides property tax, corporate and personal income tax relief for Nebraskans. The measure is being proposed by Senator Jim Smith on behalf of Governor Pete Ricketts. The Center’s Policy Program Associate Jordan Rasmussen says the measure doesn’t achieve their goal for property tax relief.
She says the other problem with LB 947 is it doesn’t balance Nebraska’s current tax system.
Rasmussen says her group is instead backing LB 1084, which is Senator Tom Briesse’s property tax bill.
Rasmussen says another problem with the Governor’s bill LB 947, is that it future leaders can’t make adjustments when there’s a recession or a change in income or revenue for the state.
