Center for Rural Affairs leaders have given federal crop insurance a failing grade in a report card evaluating the performance of the program. The Center’s Senior Policy Analyst, Traci Bruckner, says it’s because too much crop insurance subsidy support goes to the largest farmers.
Bruckner says their report pointed out several other problems with crop insurance, including a lack of transparency.
She says they’re working with policy makers to find solutions.
Bruckner says prior to compiling their report card and white paper, they took into account comments from farmers across the Midwest. Those farmers indicated the negative impacts of the federally subsidized crop insurance program.
