Nebraska lawmakers are scheduled to adjourn April 18 and the Center for Rural Affairs has two main legislative priorities left as the session winds down. CFRA Policy Associate Jordan Rasmussen says they include getting property tax relief approved along with a broadband bill. She says they’re supporting LB 1084, Senator Tom Briese’s measure which closes tax loopholes, reinstates money for education as well as places a cap on that.
Rasmussen says the bill also calls for a study on education spending. She says that measure is currently stuck in committee but they’re working to get it released for floor debate. Rasmussen also says they’re opposing LB 947, Governor Pete Ricketts’ tax bill which passed out of the revenue committee this week.
Rasmussen says they’re also backing LB 994, legislation that would create a Rural Broadband Study Task Force.
She says they were disappointed that earlier this session, lawmakers failed to pass a measure that would have collected taxes on internet sales.
