Senate Ag Committee ranking Democrat Debbie Stabenow has introduced the Growing Climate Solutions Act. The measure calls for creating an environmental credit marketplace for farmers. Center for Rural Affairs Policy Associate Kayla Bergman says the bill if approved will be run by the USDA and get technical help out to farmers and ranchers to help them received carbon credits.

She says by enhancing carbon trading by farmers, it helps them improve the environment while receiving revenue at a time the ag economy is struggling.

Bergman says there’s already interest growing for this type of program and it’s expected participation will be robust.

The Growing Climate Solutions Act establishes a Greenhouse Gas Technical Assistance Provider and Third Party Verification Program.
