A companion bill to the Senate’s Growing Climate Solutions Act has been introduced in the House with Nebraska Representatives Don Bacon and Jeff Fortenberry signing on as co-sponsors. The Center for Rural Affairs supports the measure. CFRA’s Policy Associate Kayla Bergman says the bill calls for certification of those companies through USDA working with farmers on sequestering carbon.

She says the House measure makes enrolling in carbon markets programs more streamlined and easier for producers to sign up.

Bergman says having companion measures in both chambers introduced helps their chances of passage along with bipartisan backing in both the House and Senate.

Bergman says the Growing Climate Solutions Act gives farmers the opportunity to earn additional revenue while protecting the environment.
