With strong bipartisan support, the Minnesota Senate passed a bill that would increase the penalties for drivers using a cell phone in crashes involving death or serious injury.
The bill’s author, Senator Dave Osmek of Mound. The bill also would increase fines for texting while driving and establishes distracted driving training for driver’s ed in Minnesota. The state House and Senate have already passed bills that would ban cell phone use behind the wheel–other than in hands-free mode.
