A Bi-partisan group of 20 U.S. Senators have written to Senate leadership asking for a one year delay in implementation of Electronic Logging Device rules. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rule has already been delayed 90 days. U.S. Cattlemen’s Association Transportation Committee Chairman Steve Hilker says the ELD rule is tough for livestock haulers trying to protect the health of their animals. He says those hauling cattle will be severely impacted if the rule goes forward.

He says those transporting swine have a more difficult time with the rule as they’re not in the position to stop and unload animals for a time as cattle haulers are. Hilker says there are so many factors that make it difficult to be in compliance with the ELD mandate.

Hilker says the one year delay was included in language in the House Appropriations legislation and he’s hoping they can get that included in the Senate measure.

Hilker says its critical they’re able to get the one year delay of the ELD so the Hours of Service provision can be amended.
