The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association talked trade and regulatory issues at their recent convention in North Dakota. Executive Vice President Jess Peterson says their membership was pleased Mandatory Price Reporting was reauthorized. However, he says they want some changes going forward for better transparency.
Peterson says they are also pressing Congress to pass a voluntary Country of Origin Labeling bill.
He says on the trade front, having the Trans Pacific Partnership finalized will be beneficial for their members, especially in lowering tariffs on U.S. beef in Japan.
Peterson says they’re also pleased the Sage Grouse was not listed as an endangered species. He says what’s good for the herd is good for the bird.
He says their current President Danni Beer of South Dakota was nominated for another term as President. Members will be casting ballots through the mail with the results tallied by January of 2016.
