Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says she has enough support in the U.S. Senate to overcome a filibuster of her resolution that would kill the Waters of the U.S. rule. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Dr. Phil Reemtsma says Congressional action to scrap WOTUS would be welcomed by cattle producers as it could be very costly if implemented.
Reemtsma says when an injunction went into place to stop the rule in all fifty states that helped get more elected officials focused on the problems with the rule.
Reemtsma was hoping one Iowa state official would have been more supportive of the legislative effort to stop the rule.
Ernst’s measure is expected to be considered in the next week or two. She did not indicate how many supporters have signed on to the resolution.
Although President Obama would almost certainly veto the disapproval resolution, the Senate vote would be a test of support for blocking the rule legislatively through a policy rider in the fiscal 2016 spending bill that Congress is expected to consider in December.
