A Japanese trade delegation will be in the U.S. this week meeting with American officials to continue discussions on a free trade agreement. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jodie Anderson says the U.S. needs to gain better access to that market.

She says the United States has a disadvantage compared to competitors in the Japanese market. Many of them are in the Comprehensive Trans Pacific Partnership, while the U.S is not.

Anderson says the beef industry needs the economic boost that a good trade pact would bring.

Anderson says one of the U.S.’s biggest competitors, Australia, is in the CTPP with Japan and also has a free trade agreement with the European Union.
