The National Meat Institute and the Alliance for Meat and Poultry and Seafood Innovation are asking the USDA to require mandatory labeling of cell based cultured meat and poultry products. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings supports that request as he says consumers need to know what they’re getting when they purchase meat.

He says to ensure that products are safe it’s critical the cell cultured meat and poultry be carefully scrutinized and labeled.

Jennings says there must be transparency in products that are purchased by consumers and that labels contain truthful information.

The National Meat Institute and the Alliance for Meat and Poultry and Seafood Innovation are calling on the USDA to solicit input on what cell cultured meat labeling should look like through an Advance Notice of Public Rulemaking.
