Cattle President Sees Positives On Trade With China And The European Union

China has conditionally lifted its ban on imports of U.S. beef products from animals more than 30 months of age. China’s customs office issued a notice that said inspection and quarantine requirements will be released separately. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Ken Herz says that’s a positive development but what really needs to happen is trade harmonization between countries so everyone is following the same rules.

He says it will take some time to ramp up trade with China but the potential is there to bring great benefits for America’s cattle producers.

Herz says the U.S. is making some headway with the European Union with hopes a trade pact will be worked out in the future. He also says the recent bilateral deal with Japan will start to pay off soon.

Herz says the U.S. can compete with any country when it comes to trade as long as there’s a level playing field.
