United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met this week with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for International Trade, Marie Trevelyan. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says while it would be positive if a trade deal can be worked out with the U.K. thinks there are some obstacles that may take some time to overcome.

He says when the U.K. left the European Union, the hope was they’d be easier to deal with on trade issues but some of those challenges still remain.

Earlier the U.K. said it would suspend tariffs on the U.S. tied to the WTO Boeing ruling. Jennings says if the U.S. can overcome those non ag difficulties effecting agriculture that would be positive in leading to a possible trade deal.

Jennings says it’s at least positive the Biden administration is starting to attempt to work out some trade agreements.
