United States Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue will be in China Friday and Saturday meeting with China’s Ag Minister and Vice Premier talking about trade and market access. The trip coincides with the return of U.S. beef to the Chinese market. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Troy Stowater says it’s an important trip as Nebraska beef will be showcased at a dinner hosted by U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad.
He says the more market access that’s available the greater opportunity to ship regular cuts of U.S. beef to Chinese consumers.
Stowater says the key to trading more beef to China is to get it to their middle class population which is growing and wants more beef in their diet.
Ag Secretary Perdue will be attending events in Beijing and Shanghai on Friday and Saturday meeting with Chinese officials to celebrate the return of American beef products to China.
