The U.S. Meat Export Federation is reporting record U.S. beef exports to both Taiwan and South Korea, with $84 million worth to Taiwan and $183 million to South Korea. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says that’s every encouraging considering those are two of our newest export markets.
He says Taiwan’s foodservice sector has made a large recovery from COVID 19 related restrictions imposed earlier in the year while retail demand for U.S. beef remains strong. Jennings says that’s important because it’s high quality product Taiwan is purchasing from the U.S.
The Meat Export Federation also says the U.S. has done well with both of those markets because our main competitor Australia is having problems. Jennings says that’s another factor that’s helped recently.
The Meat Export Federation also noted that the U.S. has dominated Taiwan’s imports of chilled beef in recent years capturing more than 75 percent of the market share.
