Northwest Iowa cattle producers will host a seminar scheduled for next Tuesday, May 31st to learn more about the bills introduced in Congress dealing with the marketing and price of cattle.  U-S Senator Chuck Grassley and Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra will both be featured at the meeting to offer updates to area cattle producers about the bills they have introduced.  Brad Kooima of Sioux Center will be part of the panel and says the meeting is open to the public and is free.  He explains the purpose of the meeting, and what is likely to be discussed.  Kooima says in addition himself, Senator Grassley, and Congressman Feenstra, the panel will also include Iowa Cattlemen Association Marketing Committee chair, Dustin Puhrmann.  Kooima says the meeting will offer cattle producers the opportunity for questions.  He says the issue of cattle marketing reform has been a long hard fought battle.  Kooima says cattle producers want to see more transparency among the four major meat packers with regards to price paid for cattle, but he says there also needs to an effort to speed up the issued reports of the weights of cattle sold.  Kooima says knowing the weights of the cattle sold will better assist producers in remaining current with their marketings.  The meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be held at the Grainery Lodge and Banquet Barn near Cherokee, Iowa.
