A group of GOP Senators led by West Virginia’s Shelly Moore Capito want to know why the EPA threw out the Navigable Waters Protection Rule which fixed the shortcoming contained in the 2015 WOTUS. Agriculture groups are joining them and also are not happy about NWPR being thrown out. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Vice President Todd Wilkinson says without NWPR, producers face uncertainty and more risk.
Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Allison VanderWal says her group’s members supported NWPR and want to see it put back in place because it outlined clearly what’s expected of producers.
Wilkinson says NCBA is not giving up on the Navigable Waters Protection Rule and will be battling to get that reinstated or at least a workable new rule in place much different from the 2015 WOTUS.
President Biden’s EPA is in the process of rewriting the Clean Water rule and the first step in their process was to throw out NWPR. They also intend to hold public input meetings later this fall on their new proposed regulation.
