American Agriculture groups have been waiting for bilateral agreements with trading partner since President Donald Trump took office and promised those. Following a recent meeting with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Trump expressed optimism at a possible pact with the U.K. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Jessie Herrmann says having a trade deal with the U.K. would be beneficial for her state’s cattle producers.
Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association President Krist Wollum says his group has been hoping for some kind of bilateral agreement for some time, ever since the U.S. abandoned the Trans Pacific Partnership.
He says any deal with the U.K..would likely take some time and the President’s promise here may be motivated by politics.
Wollum says his group also remains hopeful the U.S. will move ahead with bilateral trade deals with Pacific Rim countries.
