The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association along with several state cattle groups are concerned with President Trump’s withdrawal from the Trans Pacific Partnership and his desire to redo NAFTA.
Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Mike Cline says U.S. cattle producers are losing out on $400,000 in sales every day because of not having TPP in place.

The administration says the trade team will start negotiating bi-lateral agreements that are a better deal for the U.S. than TPP. Cline says they’re cautiously optimistic and will continue to monitor the President’s position on trade going forward.

He says a major concern with renegotiating NAFTA is the fallout from two of the U.S. cattle industry’s most important trading partners, Canada and Mexico.

NCBA President Tracy Brunner says since NAFTA was implemented, U.S. exports of beef to Mexico have grown by more than 750 percent.
