Last week, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts in his State of the State address talked about the need for property tax relief and backed a plan to put $ 60 million into the tax credit relief fund. State Cattlemen’s Legislative Director Laura Field say her group is pleased with that and the Governor’s support and is hoping real relief will happen this session.
Field says they expect some property tax relief proposals to come up this week in the Unicameral along with a plan to raise the brand fee.
Field says they hope whatever lawmakers decide to do with the brand fee is put in on a gradual basis.
Field says Nebraska Cattlemen members would like State Senators to look at what other fees could be changed rather than just the brand fee.
