National Cattlemen’s Beef Association members want the U.S. government to continue pursuing trade deals involving the United Kingdom, China and Japan. NCBA President Elect and Minnesota producer Don Schiefelbein says it’s encouraging to hear that the European Union is set to formally ratify the post Brexit deal between them and the U.K. He says that should provide good impetus to move ahead with a trade pact.

The new director of the World Trade Organization wants countries not to put undue pressure on China when it comes to trade. Schiefelbein says U.S. trade with China is going very well but the U.S. needs to make sure China lives up to the deal they agreed to.

He says another major trade priority for NCBA is renegotiating the bilateral trade deal with Japan and making sure U.S. product can get into that country with no tariff problems.

Schiefelbein says trade overall remains very important to U.S. cattle producers.
