Cattle Group Wants Second Beef Check Off Withdrawn

The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association has filed comments asking Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to withdraw his proposal to create a supplemental beef check off program. Cattlemen’s President Todd Wilkinson says not only did they file those comments but also would be in favor of an omnibus appropriations bill that prevents the Secretary from moving forward on that second check off.
Wilkinson says having two beef check off’s running at the same time would not only cause confusion but an immense amount of problems.
Wilkinson says his group is willing to work to improve the beef check off but to have a new check off put in the place of the old one without it being producer controlled or driven is a major mistake.
