The United States Cattlemen’s Association is encouraging USDA to review and rewrite the Beef Check Off. Cattlemen’s Jess Peterson says they want Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to intervene in the process following an impasse by the working group attempting to reform the program. Peterson says reform is badly needed.
Peterson says the most important reform needed is better governance.
He says the Beef Check Off needs to be run and managed by producers and whatever group is in charge of marketing needs to get the most out of the dollars spent.
Peterson says cattle producers deserve an enhanced an improved Beef Check Off now and not a decade from now.
