Nebraska Cattlemen Association officials say they’re working with State Senators in trying to find new sources for funding education. Cattlemen’s Director of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says it’s a tough balancing act, achieving meaningful property tax relief while adequately funding education. She says they’ll be at the legislative hearing next month where lawmakers look at possible education funding options.
Field says the property tax burden on ranchers is severe enough it’s their top legislative priority. She says funding education and finding property tax relief is a complicated issue.
She says lawmakers will have to look at a multi piece property tax relief package during the next session. She’s hoping part of it is reducing the ag valuation from 75 percent to 65 percent.
