Brazil temporarily halted beef exports to China this week after reporting an atypical case of BSE. United States Cattlemen’s Association President and North Dakota rancher Kenny Graner says the U.S. and other countries need to hold Brazil accountable for this BSE case. He says beef shipments from Brazil should be suspended to the United States as well.
He says world safety standards should apply on beef trade to every country and not just to select ones.
Graner says Brazil’s track record is a bad one when it comes to trade and safety. He says his group’s members will share their concerns about Brazil with USDA officials next week at their Fly In in the nation’s Capital.
Brazil’s BSE case was atypical meaning the 17 year old cow infected did not contract the disease through animal feed. And it never entered the food supply.
