Cattle Group Outlines Concerns To Sub Committee

The House Agriculture Sub Committee on Livestock, Rural Development and Credit held a hearing this week looking at the livestock industry in the United States.  National Cattlemen Beef Association’s Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says California Rancher Mike Smith represented the group at the meeting and talked about drought effects hitting his state and resulting problematic government regulations.

Woodall says the other major issue NCBA brought to the sub committee was their concern over a World Trade Organization Challenge of the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law. He says if the WTO rules in favor of Canada and Mexico this summer, there could be retaliation against the U.S. cattle industry which could be very costly.

Woodall says they also expressed concerns with lack of agreement over the Trans Pacific Partnership and the need to do away with the Renewable Fuel mandate that is negatively impacting the cattle industry.
