A coalition of six Environmental and Wildlife Advocacy Groups including HSUS are challenging in court the de-listing of the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act. The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association spoke in favor of that de-listing when it was put in. Cattlemen’s Executive Director Allison VanderWal isn’t surprised at the move by the environmental groups but says the de-listing was the proper move.
She says the de-listing was based on good science and had the backing of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
VanderWal says the wolves cause a lot of damage to livestock so having a good state management plan in place is one of the best ways to control them as well as keeping them off the Endangered Species List.
More than 6,000 gray wolves live in the continental United States including over 4,000 in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.
