Drought this year has hit a large section of the Northern Plains. In South Dakota, the need for feed is starting to show up according to Jodie Anderson, South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director.
She says they’re starting to see more cattle sales as producers are selling off animals because of the drought.
Anderson says the availability of hay for cattle is a bit scarce and expected to worsen as the summer goes on.
Anderson encourages producers to stay in touch with their local Farm Service Agency office for any program information or aid that may be available to help them deal with the drought.
