Both Houses of the South Dakota Legislature have approved Governor Kristi Noem’s Ag Development Zoning Bill. The House added an amendment so now the two versions will be ironed out by a conference committee. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jodie Anderson was pleased with the approval of SB 157 and says it will improve zoning decisions by county governments.

She says several factors led to its heavy support in the legislature including the backing by a coalition of diverse groups.

Anderson says the bill gives more power to counties and local control and should lead to more and better ag development in South Dakota.

Anderson says by giving better local control to counties which the legislation does, it also takes away much of the influence of special interest groups which have been working to derail needed development projects.
