Cattle Group Calls For Truth In Meat Labeling

Cattle Group Calls For Truth In Meat Labeling

Seven groups representing meat and poultry producers as well as processors wrote a letter to President Trump asking him to place cell cultured protein products under USDA regulations rather than FDA. The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association has a different approach. President Kenny Graner says they’re asking the administration to enforce truth in labeling on meat and decide the jurisdiction of who regulates it later.

He says the regulation could be handled by both agencies but that should take a back seat to the labeling issue.

Graner says cultured protein should not be labeled the same as meat that comes from an animal.

Graner says it’s important both the Administration and Congress implement policies that eliminate consumer confusion when it comes to meat and labeling.
