The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology released a report this week that finds there’s no science based reason to single out genetically modified organisms for labeling. South Dakota Corn Growers President Keith Alverson of Chester says they’ve known that for some time and this report clears up many misconceptions about g-m-o-s and biotechnology.
The CAST report also says the dialogue on G-M-O issues needs to focus on more fact based information. The report also says that GMOs are safe for human consumption. Alverson says having that confirmation is important for consumers and producers.
The report added that the costs of mandatory food labels would vary widely depending on how food manufacturers respond to a hypothetical FDA rule.
