The South Dakota Department of Health says a case of measles has been reported in the state.
Epidemiologist Dr. Lon Kightlinger says the case was diagnosed in an unvaccinated five year old child in Davison County.

Kightlinger says they are pushing for a public health response.

Kightlinger says measles needs to be taken seriously.

He says measles is highly contagious and can spread rapidly from person to person. Kightlinger says anyone who has not had the disease or has not been vaccinated can catch it.
He says the Health Department is working to locate the source of the infection.
