The South Dakota Attorney general’s office has charged two candidates with election fraud and perjury. Republican U.S. Senate candidate, Dr. Annette Bosworth and Independent candidate Clayton Walker each are charged with six counts of offering a false instrument for filing and six counts of perjury, both felonies.
The charges are tied to nominating petitions they signed and submitted.
Attorney General Marty Jackley chose to wait until the election was over before filing the charges…
He says the charges are serious and needed to be addressed to preserve the integrity of the election process.
Bosworth and Walker are scheduled to make their initial court appearance on June 23rd in a Hughes County courtroom.
Offering a false instrument for filing and perjury are punishable by up to two years in prison and or a $4,000 fine on each count.
