Canadian Officials Want TPP Agreement

Trans Pacific Partnership negotiators are meeting in Washington D.C. this week hoping to unsnag the stalled talks. Canadian Cattlemen Association members are very interested in seeing a final deal be resolved. Association’s Director of Government and International Relations John Masswohl says TPP is an important deal for his country’s cattle producers.
Masswohl says for a successful agreement, Japan must lower their tariffs to zero like the rest of the countries involved in the negotiation.
Some have suggested that if Japan won’t come to the table on its tariffs, negotiators should proceed without Japan. Masswohl says that woudn’t make sense.
Negotiators from the twelve Pacific Rim countries are in the U.S. this week through December 12.
