U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says Canada is holding up the text of the Trans Pacific Partnership, largely because of the new government coming into power there. Canadian Cattlemen’s Association Director of Government and International Relations John Masswohl says Canada is moving ahead with the TPP and he isn’t aware of any holdup.
Masswohl says the new Canadian government leaders are very supportive of trade and the TPP deal.
He says the major benefit with the TPP is for the beef industry, in both Canada and the U.S. with increased market access to Japan and the lowering of tariffs.
Masswohl says while that’s been happening, Australia has been paying only 31 percent tariff on fresh beef and 29.5 percent on frozen beef. That will be corrected once TPP is implemented.
