A recent Auburn University Study showed the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law did not have a significant negative impact on the price paid for imported slaughter cattle. Canadian Cattlemen Association’s John Masswohl says most of economists he’s talked to take issue with the report. He says it’s clear the study used hand picked information to reach their conclusion.
Masswohl says there was a lot of important data that was left out of the Auburn study.
Masswohl says information already submitted to the WTO supports Canada’s claim that COOL has harmed their cattle industry. He says there is no reason for this study.
Masswohl says the WTO has already heard the arguments it’s the economy that’s hurt the Canadian cattle industry, that it’s not COOL and they’ve discounted that and said it is COOL causing the damage.
