The recent agreement between the U.S. and Canada on foreign animal disease detection and response is proceeding well. In that working agreement the two countries have set protocols on what to do with feral hogs should they contract African Swine Fever. National Pork Producers Council Chief Veterinarian Dr. Liz Wagstrom says the agreement will allow the flow of trade between Canada and the U.S to continue while keeping FAD protections in place.
She says both the U.S. and Canada are being progressive in their approach to trade and disease protection.
Wagstrom says the U.S., Canada and Mexico have been working collaboratively on several ag and animal health issues.
Wagstrom says the U.S. and Canada both are looking at what would be required for accepting a regionalization scheme should ASF or another foreign animal disease surfaces.
