Canada appears ready to compromise with the U.S. on dairy access in a new North American Free Trade Agreement Deal. That would be in return for dispute settlement concessions. Minnesota Milk Producers Association President Dave Buck says that looks positive on the surface and he’s hoping they’ll come to a final agreement.
He’s not against giving up on the dispute settlement issue if the U.S. can get dairy access into Canada.
Buck says it’s positive that Canada is starting to compromise, after taking a hard line on dairy earlier. He says they have a strong lobby group representing their dairy producers.
Sources close to the NAFTA negotiations say Canada is prepared to offer concessions similar to those it gave to the E.U. and Pacific Rim nations.
