Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, David MacNaughton, says Canada could announce a new list of retaliatory tariffs on more U.S. products, including ag goods. That would be in response to the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs President Donald Trump placed on Canada. Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa isn’t surprised by the announcement and says Canada is within its rights to take that action. He’s already told President Trump the Section 232 tariffs need to be removed.

He says Trump has already succeeded in getting Canada and Mexico to agree to a new USMCA, so there’s no reason now to leave the steel and aluminum tariffs in place.

MacNaughton says the retaliation Canada is now looking at will include a significant number of American agricultural products.
