The United States isn’t the only country wanting a successful completion to the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement. Canada does as well and like the U.S. wants and needs market access from Japan. Japan has been one of the sticking points in the deal with both Canada and the U.S. and is protecting many of its products. Canadian Cattlemen Association’s John Masswohl who’s in Guam monitoring the negotiations says Japan is a very important market for his country’s cattle producers.
Masswohl says Canada could lose the Japanese market to one of their beef competitors that just signed a unilateral trade deal with Japan if they can’t get tariffs lowered in the TPP.
There are twelve nations including the United States and Canada working to be part of the Trans Pacific Partnership.
