Both House Ag Committee Chair, Michael Conaway, and Ways and Means Chairman, Paul Ryan, say Canada needs to reform its dairy program. They agree that if it doesn’t, the program should be dropped from the Trans Pacific Partnership discussions. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen agrees.
Galen says both Canada, with dairy and poultry, and Japan, with pork and other ag products, need to come to the same terms in the TPP as the other nations involved in the talks.
Galen says there should be more movement on TPP by the end of July.
Congressmen Ryan and Conaway, along with 19 other House members, warned Canada in a letter that they could be dropped from the TPP if they don’t open their market to more dairy products.
