A new campaign is underway to Solarize South Dakota. Dakota Rural Action will be working with homeowners, renters, farmers and ranchers to generate and use more solar energy. Don Kelley is Chairman of the Board of Directors for DRA and says that the campaign is aimed to fight the misconceptions of solar energy.
Kelley lives off the grid in Nemo, generating all of his energy needs through solar electricity. He says the campaign will reach out to anyone interested in solar energy by having them assess the energy needs of their homes and businesses first.
Kelley says they also hope to sell 1,000 LED lightbulbs at a discounted price, and they hope to finish the campaign with at least 15 people who install solar powered water heaters or pumps and 8 homes or businesses fully powered by solar energy.
The campaign will continue through October and more information can be found online at facebook.com/SolarizeSD.
