The Agriculture Ministry in Israel has ordered the installation of cameras in slaughterhouses to cut down on animal abuse cases.  However, Animal Ag Alliance President and CEO Kay Johnson Smith says here in the United States cameras aren’t warranted because the processing industry is already doing a great job preventing animal abuse.

She says the Alliance’s main concern is with animal activist groups who use undercover videos to defame the livestock industry and push their agenda.

Johnson Smith says some U.S. slaughter plants do use cameras.  However, here the concern is if activist groups get their hands on those videos they could doctor them to fit their own agenda.

Johnson Smith says the U.S processing industry has made great strides to make sure humane welfare practices are followed during processing.
