California environmental protection agency officials are moving to list glyphosate as a carcinogen. National Corn Grower’s Association Board member Keith Alverson who serves as President of the South Dakota Corn Growers says that move is disturbing for agriculture and could lead to other states following suit.
He says glyphosate is a commonly used hebicide that’s been proven to be safe. He says having a state list it as a carcinogen sends the wrong message to consumers.
Alverson says the real danger is the precedent the California move sends for the rest of the country.
Earlier the International Agency for the Research on Cancer said glyphosate is likely carcinogenic.
